Reports to: Chief Business Officer

General Description of Role: This newly created role of Director, Business Development (DBD) is for a self-starter, motivated by success, with experience in the oncology biomarker and diagnostics development, primarily responsible for the identification, generation, and management of new collaborations with biotech and pharmaceutical companies developing novel cancer therapeutics.  The DBD will position GeneCentric’s portfolio of novel  RNA-based algorithms/assays, predictive response signature development services to biotech and pharmaceutical company clients in North America and Europe. The DBD will identify unmet industry needs and participate in the design and market positioning of new offerings.  The DBD will initiate, develop and grow relationships with key companies; and identify growth strategy opportunities for specialty oncology therapeutic diagnostics.

Responsibilities and Objectives:

Prepare and execute the annual sales plan in consultation GeneCentric leadership;

Plan and execute a robust lead generation plan for obtaining first-time, new potential client meetings;

Manage and grow relationships with existing pharma partners;

Maintain Customer Relationship Management database ( and use the platform to launch, manage and track marketing campaigns;

Draft proposals for drug-specific genomic biomarker discovery/development projects with biotech/pharmaceutical companies seeking to enrich for patient response/outcomes;

Work closely with internal research/bioinformatics teams to ensure effective client engagement;

Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual sales reports/forecasts and client development activities;

Maintain effective communication with prospective and current client companies through regular travel, convention attendance, customer visits, and influential third-party contacts;

Build the GeneCentric brand through:

  • Delivery of high-quality presentations; maintain ongoing client communications of our capabilities;
  • Development of strategic marketing plans and marketing materials, including leveraging social media as appropriate;
  • Lead company presence/participation at major scientific and drug development conferences;

Disseminate and report information regarding developments in the marketplace and competitive information; monitor competitor activity and competitors’ products;

As the business grows, build a team; hire sales executives; manage and support team to execute GeneCentric corporate strategies and fulfill business objectives;

Perform other duties as required/assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Science required, with advanced degree preferred

At least eight (8) years of oncology/molecular diagnostics and client development experience with a proven track record of success in selling biomarkers development services

Existing relationships in the oncology drug development and translational biology

Proven record of success in small, fast-paced organizations with minimum supervision

Proven ability to multi-task and to interact effectively with key internal and external stakeholders

Experience with social media

Superior oral and written communication skills; advanced computer presentation skills

Ability to travel two weeks per calendar month within North America

Ideally, the candidate will be located in the Research Triangle Park, NC area
